Childbirth and the Passion of the Christ

Deep, guttural screams of agony

Blood and water flow mingled down.

For the joy set before her, she endures –

A child is born.

Deep, guttural cries of anguish

Blood and water flow mingled down.

For the joy set before Him, He endures –

That the many might be born again.

In childbirth, the woman identifies with Christ

On the cross, He with her.

God in labor with a new humanity –

Only this kind of suffering

Ends in life.
